CONNECTIONS OF THE OTHER TURKISH TRIBES WITH THE KIPÇAKS AND KUMANS ACCORDING TO THE PERSON, LOCATION AND TRIBE NAMES AT AHISKA AND AROUND

Mehmet KILDIROĞLU

It’s known that lots of Turk tribes such as from Scythian, Huns, Sabars, Avars, Khazars, Bulgarians, Pechenegs, Oghuzs and Kipchaks came to Ahıska and its environs throughout the history. In fact, according to the records of Kartlis Çovreba, the Georgian source, it was recorded that the Kipchaks arrived in Georgia and its environs in the years before Christ. However, there is no other record to confirm this information. Kartlis Çovreba wrote that Alexander had fought a group called Buntürki and Kipchak during his campaign in Georgia. If the information of Kartlis Çovreba is true, 2300 years ago the Kipchaks were in the Caucasus and they may have come here with Scythians. In the later periods, the Turkish tribes mentioned above have been here in this geography. However, there are few traces about them. Especially after Oghuz and Kipchaks arrived in the region, many Turkish tribes, clans and tribals settled to the region. Names of many of these tribes, clans and tribals have been preserved in people's and places' names. All these names were changed when Russians came to the region and Russians domineered Georgians at the beginning of the 20. century. As a result of this, it was brought to mind that Turkish tribes and tribals have never been to Ahıska and its environs. Especially, it is understood from the names of people, places and tribes from the Ottoman records that Turkish tribes, clans and tribals lived densely in Ahiska and its environs. In this study, it will be revealed that the Kipchak tribes, clans and tribals found in the region mentioned in this study have parallels in other Turkish tribes, clans and tribals in Central Asia.
