In this study, worldwide cotton-producing countries, and Turkey's production, consumption and developments in foreign trade were examined. We aimed to determine the competitive position of cotton produced in Turkey in international trade mainly between the years 2000-2017. Besides, in this study we tried to determine the factors affecting the competitiveness of the cotton in the world and Turkey. Within the scope of the study, countries with significant shares in cotton production, consumption and foreign trade have been identified. Foreign trade data of related countries were collected from web sites such as TURKSTAT, Comtrade and Trademap for use in analysis. An Analysis of Explanatory Comparative Advantages (BAT) was conducted to determine the competitive position of countries. According to the results of the RC analysis, Australia, the United States, Greece and Brazil have comparative advantages in the period 2000-2009, while the countries with Explanatory Comparative Advantage (RC) in 2010-2016 are Australia, India, Pakistan, Greece, USA and Brazil. It has been determined that Turkey does not have a comparative advantage in cotton production in both periods.
